The N.Z.B.C.’s first colour television outside broadcast van arrived in Wellington from England in June 1973.
It was the first major piece of equipment the N.Z.B.C. had bought for colour television and had the then latest in automatic colour cameras The N.Z.B.C. public relations manager (Mr R. E. Coury) said that the $500,000 van would be tested and then used for staff training and some transmissions before becoming part of the outside broadcast unit at Avalon.
Mr Coury said one camera had been used for training until then but it had had to be shared around the other centres. The new van was to stay in Wellington and a second van due to arrive in about two months would go to Christchurch.
