AKA Star Quest

A talent quest series that set out to expose the best of New Zealand’s “grass roots entertainment.”

preliminary heats were held in hotels throughout the country. These talent quests were judged by radio and television people in the presence of the general public

Hosted by Ray Woolf, and the resident judges included “Shazam” presenter, Phillip Schofield; the American jazz singer, Dee Dee McNeil; Lauri Dee, and Prince Tui Teka or Billy T. James — plus one guest judge. Guest judges during the series will be Carl Doy, Bob Parker, Roger Gascoigne, Marcus Craig, Ray Columbus and Roy Phillips.

Performers on the first show were Mike Matheson of Te Atatu; Maree Ann Humphries, from Christchurch; Heather Fitzgerald, from Massey; the Tamati brothers, from Wanganui; and Pani Mallin, from Gisborne.
