A TVNZ documentary paying tribute to a legend and looking at Sir Edmund Hillary's life after summiting Mr Everest, and the legacy he left behind.
The origins and the parameters of the special relationship New Zealanders had with Hillary are explored; why we are so proud of him, why we like to think that his strengths and virtues are our strengths and virtues writ large, why we like to believe that his resolve, courage, decency and compassion somehow represent the better part of ourselves.
Presented by cartoonist and close friend Tom Scott
