Screened in a half-hour slot on TVNZ 7 and Heartland
Before the invention of photography sitting for a portrait was a mark of status and achievement – famous people had their portraits painted for the generations that followed. The Sitting celebrated New Zealanders from the world of sport, business, politics, the arts, the media or human endeavour who are invited to sit for Marty Welch, a highly acclaimed up-and-coming New Zealand portrait artist who will capture the essence of each famous subject on canvas. During the painting process Marty engages the subject in conversation, exploring his or her past and discovering a few new gems of information about the person that until now has never been revealed. The portrait is finished and presented to the sitter for comment.
